October 27-29, 2001
American University

The National Association of Public Interest Law held its annual convention in Washington, D.C. Nine representatives, comprised of SAPIL officers and Stetson's Public Service Fellows, attended the proceedings.
A variety of events were presented. Public interest employers met interested students and provided information and an opportunity for interviews at the NAPIL career fair. Seminars on a variety of topics were presented, including sessions on public interest in private practice, public interest careers in government, and loan repayment assistance programs for law students. There was even a surprise appearance by Ralph Nader.

Arrival!
Despite tightened airport security, which meaned that we had to get to the airport 3 hours early, Stetson's NAPIL Conference attendees were excited to finally have arrived in DC!
Off to the Conference!
The intrepid SAPIL conventioneers Honey, Liz, and Mary were off to explore the exciting world of public interest law!
Friday, October 27: Day One
The first day of the conference was eventful. This picture, highlighting Public Service Fellow and SAPIL member Heather Tirnauer, looks out at the job fair convention floor where public interest employers had tables and students lined up for interviews.
Washington D.C.
SAPIL members did more than just put their fingers to the pulse of today's exciting world of public interest law. They also took a little time off to explore the D.C. sights like a bunch of goggle-eyed tourists!
Saturday, October 28: Day Two
In the morning, several SAPIL members showed up to watch Ralph Nader deliver a rousing address on contemporary ills to a packed audience on Saturday morning at the American University Law School. The monologue was followed by a brisk Q-and-A session and an opportunity to purchase an autographed copy of Nader's new book. Then many of us went out sightseeing. With the memory of September 11th fresh in our minds, we wanted to see what the Pentagon sight really looked like.
Saturday Night
On Saturday night, the Stetson team split up for a night out on the town - which for many meant more sightseeing.
Sunday Morning
The airport shuttle van driver was kind enough to snap a picture of the entire Stetson crew in front of the Windsor Park in DC's Adams-Morgan district.
